Helping celebrate 30 years of Air Jordan 4
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 4 silhouette. To help celebrate the Jumpman brand has decided to release the “What The” Air Jordan 4 on November 23rd. Touted to retail at £165, the model draws inspiration from some of the silhouette’s most iconic models. With designs like the “White Cement”, “Military Blue”, “Fire Red” and “Black Cement” all represented on the new model. A formula which has been tried and tested previously for Air Jordan. Notably with 2016’s “Top Three” Air Jordan 1 arriving as a fusion of the OG “Bred,” “Chicago,” and “Royal” colourways.
The love-hate “What The” concept has been dormant for the past couple of years. Some pairs, like the original “What The Dunk” from 2007, are highly-coveted to this day. Other pairs that have utilised the mashup concept have not had the same staying power. Yet we predict this Air Jordan 4 to buck that trend quite significantly.
What does the “What The” Air Jordan 4 look like?
Approaching the coveted tooling with a bit of surprising subtlety. The “What The” Air Jordan 4 differs from several of the bolder variants of the Air Jordan 4 silhouette. Instead of swapping back and forth between tones vibrant and neutral, both shoes consist of a smooth leather construction. Which remains a connecting white tone from toe to rear. While their underlying base layers, whose face is covered by brighter gridded cages, changes up from a deep blue on one to a shadowing black on the next. Overlaid components follow suit in this quick dichotomy. While using both the cool and warm tone to further call to colourways past (as previously highlighted). “Nike Air” rests right at the heel of each along distinct backdrops. While sole units don either the iconic “Cement” palette or the fan favourite “Bred.”
