Ed Sheeran, an unexpected Sneakerhead
I think it is hard to doubt Ed Sheeran’s credibility in his chosen field. One of the most successful artists of his generation, Sheeran, from humble beginnings has transcended to the upper echelons of the music industry. With writing credits for a plethora of global megastars. As well as a fully fledged career in his own right, with countless number one singles and albums to his name. Despite this, Ed Sheeran is clearly not for everyone, for a lot of people he divides opinion. Not just with his style of music but also with his style in general, or perceived lack of. I don’t think it would be unfair to say that Sheeran in his checkered shirts and boot cut jeans won’t be turning heads at the Met Gala anytime soon. What you might not know, however, is Ed Sheeran’s trainers are almost always on point.
Ed Sheeran’s trainers
It is safe to say Ed Sheeran is understated both in his appearance and his demeanour. Spending most of his time these days at his home in sleepy Norfolk village Framlington. It is evident Sheeran isn’t much one for the Hollywood limelight. A man who has himself stated he doesn’t have a phone clearly likes to disconnect his private and public personas. When Ed Sheeran does like to step out into the public eye, however, little can be made of the singer songwriter aesthetically. For the most part failing to dazzle on the red carpet or during television appearances. Opting more for a smart casual approach, you will seldom see him rocking flashy designer garments. If you pan down, however, you will pretty much always see some fire on his feet. Ed Sheeran is a self confessed sneakerhead, and he’s been spotted in some pretty slick pairs over the years.
Air Yeezy 2 Red October
In March 2014, Ed Sheeran was photographed at Elton John’s Oscar Party wearing a pair of Air Yeezy 2 Red October. A model that dropped in February of the same year to much fanfare. Probably most notable because by the time it released online its designer Kanye West had already cut all ties with Nike following a heavily publicised fall out of his creative license. The pair in 2019 resells at upwards of $6000.
Air Jordan 5 Bel-Air
On the red carpet of the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, Sheeran wore a pair of Air Jordan 5 ‘Bel-Air’. Which were designed to celebrate the classic 1990’s Will Smith sitcom “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” A nod to the pilot where Smith repped two colourways for the Air Jordan 5 silhouette. You can buy a pair on the secondary market today for around $385, depending on size.
Air Jordan 3 Cement
That same year, at the 2013 Teen Choice Awards Sheeran was once again spotted in a pair of Jordans to accompany his relaxed jeans and denim shirt. Only this time with a much more familiar model featuring. The Air Jordan 3 Cement is the silhouette’s most popular colourway and we can see why. Believed to be the 2011 variant of the modern classic, it was part of an Air Jordan 3 retro drop that commemorated the 23rd anniversary of the shoe. Which could be yours in 2019 for about $230 on the resale market. While Ed Sheeran has also been spotted at various events in countless other colourways for the AJ3. Including the Air Jordan 3 Retro ‘Fear Pack’, ‘Powder Blue’ & ‘Joker’ designs.
Jordan Flight Iluminary
Casting a much smarter figure during the premiere for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in 2013 in which his music featured. Sheeran still couldn’t resist pulling off some high tops, sporting a pair of Jordan Flight Iluminary. Really highlighting his love for all things Jordan. Confirming his status as a true aficionado.
Nike SB Stefan Janoski Mid
Proving he is more than just a court shoe addict Ed Sheeran stepped out in a pair of Nike SB Stefan Janoski Mid at the 2013 CMT Music Awards. Stefan Janoski has had a long and respected partnership with Nike’s Skateboarding division for some time now, and these kicks are a testament to that.
