2020 has been a horrific year which kicked off with the death of an icon, a legend, a basketball hero in the prime of his life, Kobe Bryant. Kobe died in a helicopter crash in California which also took the life of his daughter Gianna Bryant and seven others who were on board.

The basketball world was in a state of shock, and just 6 months later few are fully over the fact that one of the greatest basketball players the world has ever seen was taken from us. Nike want to honour the player, and the man himself with a collection dedicated to his lasting memory.

The pack will have a full celebratory week, kick starting on August 23rd. Titled ‘Mamba Week’ the aim is to donate $1m to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports foundation, continue support for the Mamba league and to release special retail drops of shoes and gear for Kobe fans to get their hands on.

What basketball shoes can we be expecting in the collection?

On August 23rd a Kobe Proto 5 ‘Big Stage Parade’ look will be dropping; this is a new take on the Big Stage colourway from back in 2010 and the NBA finals of that year. The graphic on the shoe was taken form the same graphic mosaic that adorned the side seen on the championship parade PE.

A day after this, on August 24th, Nike will be dropping the “Lakers” colourway with the iconic purple and gold colourway of the team.

The footwear will be joined by a collection of basketball jerseys with Kobe’s name and number.
