Inspiration Behind Nike ‘The 10th Collection’
Don’t get confused between the debuting Nike ‘The 10th Collection’ and the Off-White x Nike ‘The 10’ Collection which came to prominence in 2018. This totally new ‘The 10th Collection’ is inspired by one of Nike’s founding fathers, Bill Bowerman. Saluting the time he spent serving as a major in the army’s 10th Mountain Division during World War II. As Bowerman and his men’s primary responsibility was to bravely scale snowy alpine peaks for the Allied cause and has given major inspiration to the designs in this new collection.
The centrepiece of which is a brand new react silhouette called the Nike React Ianga. Which looks to blend sensibilities of a hiking boot with the stylings of 2018 shoe of the year the Nike React Element 87 and its younger sibling the Nike React Element 55.
Dissecting the design of the new Nike React Ianga
The shoe enlists combat-ready design details and materials to tell Bowerman’s story succinctly. Starting with the base of this upper, this model combines tightly woven rugged black fabric with tumbled black leather. Wheat detailing and trim dispersed around the upper’s oblong midfoot overlay, collar, and abstract-shaped heel piece nod to standard-issue GI boots. Only one small swoosh is present on each foot placed at the bottom of the throat’s lace overlay. While a “The 10th” badge on the lateral heel collar provides the most direct salute to Bowerman’s service.
This all sits atop something all the more familiar to fans of the Nike product line. The midsole in question is a white React midsole. Similar to the one you would find on any of the previously released Nike React Element 87 models. Equipped with a plethora of gum rivets and a single pop of bright orange completes the look.
