It’s a collaboration we never knew we needed, or asked for, but one that makes us glad when we actually see it happen. Only a handful of people will know what the conversation was like when representatives from America’s biggest sports retailer, Nike, got together with America’s most beloved ice cream creator, Ben & Jerrys, to talk about teaming up on a design for the iconic Nike SB Dunk Low.
The design is based on the “Chunky Monkey” flavour of banana ice cream and fudge and walnut chunks. Whilst it may not be a popular or even easy to find flavour in the UK – Stateside it is one of B&J’s biggest sellers. So much so that it was the first flavour combo that the design team went to for inspiration for the SB Dunk.
Nike’s SB Dunk skateboard line of sneakers is by far and away their most adventurous when it comes to colourways. The “Strangelove” and “Plumb” releases so far in 2020 can attest to that. And it’s rare we’d find a look quite like the new “Chunky Dunky” on any of Nike’s other sillhouttes.
The design is made up of green and blue leather laid out in the rolling green pastures and blue skies of their farms. For the overlays, a selection of cow print pony hair layers. The Swoosh branding is given a yellow, banana ice cream make over with ice cream drips for good measure. “Chunky Dunky” embroidered tongue tag as well as a yellow Nike heel branding are the additional features.
Inside the shoe the sockliner is given a psychedelic tie-die look that creeps over the upper trim. A white midsole sits atop a green outsole for the finishing touch.
The collaborative branding between Ben & Jerrys and Nike mixes well in this insane look which we expect to be a hit with skate and sneaker fans alike. The look is expected to release some time this summer so make sure you check back with us here at Laced’s online trainers portal soon for an official release date.
